The Impact of Clean Water: Marvin & Luz’s Story

In the Salomón de la Selva neighborhood, clean drinking water was once an everyday hazard. Marvin Bacardi and his wife, Luz María Sánchez, both face chronic health challenges, including diabetes and kidney disease. Drinking untreated water straight from the tap regularly caused severe illness and abdominal pain.

Through El Ayudante’s clean water initiative, Marvin and Luz received a Filtron clay water filter. Marvin hooked the filter directly into their household plumbing lines, providing safe water for both cooking and drinking.

“The filter means a lot to us. When pipes break, mud gets into the water, but now it stays inside the filter. It’s been a big help for our health, especially our kidneys.” — Marvin Bacardi
